Cantonese for Mandarin speaking students
Elementary Level
The beginning level Cantonese language course is designed for heritage Mandarin Speakers who have no background in Cantonese. Students will learn Jyutping phonetic romanization transcription system, pronunciation, grammar, unique Cantonese vocabulary and expressions, and Cantonese sentence patterns. The course will be taught in both Mandarin and Cantonese. The emphasis of this course is training for basic conversational and presentational skills in Cantonese. It is designed to help students with Mandarin knowledge to understand the basic differences between Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese, and also to learn about local culture and customs.
Programme Features:
1. 2. Learn with Chinese experts: Receiving instruction, guidance, and insights from our well-experienced Chinese teachers who possess expertise in Chinese language, culture, or other related fields.
3. Teaching method: Employing diverse teaching approaches promotes cultural awareness and accommodates the students from diverse language and cultural backgrounds.
4. Learning mode: Providing various learning modes (in-person/online/hybrid) that are specifically designed to meet the needs of the students.
5. Community immersion and cultural enhancement:
5.1 developing an in-depth understanding of the community's traditions, values, and history by linking the curriculum to various in-class as well as outside-classroom activities as lectures on Chinese culture, exploring heritage sites in Hong Kong and etc.
5.2 40-minute Evening Social before class every Wednesday: Building strong and positive relationships with teachers and classmates.
5.3 Incorporating Student-Staff Partnership (SSP) approach into designing and/or organizing learning-support activities.
